Keith, Rick and I had a great run this morning – two miles out to Hyannisport and then three loops @ <8:00 pace. Between each loop, Keith (he won't admit it) had the insane idea to do pushups. I had no idea how weak my arms and shoulders had become. My arms were shaking on the last batch … the saddest part – it was only 10 pushups!!
We covered the three loops in (aiming for 22:00 -24:00):
22:41
21:45
21:35
I don't know what we were thinking on that last loop (7:45 pace), but on our return trip to the High School we were all feeling the effects. No one spoke. We simply ran with our heads down. I was counting out the paces in my head, hoping that each turn would bring West Main Street into focus. It was the longest two miles of my running career – and that includes the first two miles that I ever ran.
I've been home for two hours, and I'm just starting to feel like I can function today. I've had about 50oz of water, 20 oz of gatorade, yogurt and peanut butter toast. I think with another 20 oz of water I'll be back to normal. Unfortunately, Michelle is working today. I don't think Colin cares too much that I'm exhausted from the morning run – he just wants to play, play, play. I'm hoping that he can be convinced to snuggle up and watch a movie. : )
